VAL D'ISERE AT A GLANCE

Val d'Isere, along with Tignes, makes up the world-famous Espace Killy ski area which offers an incredible 300km of piste (the majority above 2,300m) and some great off-piste areas too. At the heart of the resort is a charming little village nestled in the French Alps with an array of shops, traditional restaurants and bars. Home to the legendary La Folie Douce, the resort is well-known for its après ski and party vibe, so it’s a great place to visit as a group. It’s not all about the party though! In addition to this, it’s also well-known for its challenging slopes including the infamous Face de Bellevarde run which sees 959m of vertical descent with a gradient of up to 71%. There are plenty of gentler blues and greens scattered throughout the resort too but those who like a more leisurely ski.

WHY WE LOVE VAL D'ISERE

  • The off-piste here is top notch
  • Great après ski and nightlife
  • Fantastic skiing for those who like a challenge with easier options so it’s enjoyable for everyone

Beginners

There are two dedicated nursery ski areas in the resort where beginners can find their feet before making their way further up. There are 12 green pistes and 24 blues further up the mountain which offer incredible views and fantastic skiing. Under ESF’s tuition, beginners will progress quickly to be able to enjoy all the gentle skiing Val d’Isere offers.

Intermediates

The Espace Killy is an intermediate skiing nirvana. The choice seems endless. Head up to the Aiguille Percee to practise your carving all the way down to Tignes Le Lac. Grab the Aeroski then either head over to the Grande Motte glacier or down to La Daille criss-crossing the men’s world cup downhill course. On the way home the Sache is a stunning run back to Brevieres when freshly groomed – but be aware that it can turn into a long mogul run!

Advanced

Val d’Isere is enjoyable for all levels of skier, but it really comes into it’s own for those who love a challenging black run. One of our must-do pistes in Val d’Isere is the famous ‘Face de Bellevarde’, the site of the 1992 Olympic men’s downhill and an incredible run for expert skiers. The ‘OK Coupe du Monde’ offers another great challenge for advanced skiers. There’s so much potential for off-piste in Val d’ Isere too for those who have the skill and equipment. Off-piste guiding in an option; the highly experienced local guides put you at ease instantly and know the best spots for the perfect day off-piste.

Group Ski Holidays

The après ski and nightlife options are endless in Val d’Isere which makes it a great location for group holidays. Ski hard on 300km of piste by day and party hard at one of the many pubs, bars and clubs by night. Dick’s Tea Bar is one of our favourites, don’t be fooled by the name – get the drinks flowing and their resident DJs will ensure the night pops off!

Ski Schools

We have a number of ski school partners in Val d’Isere so we’ll organise lessons with the right instructor to suit your skiing needs. All instructors that we work with speak English and have tonnes of experience, so you’ll be skiing the slopes higher up in no time!

Ski Hire

Depending on where your accommodation is located we can organise ski rental from either your accommodation or an easily accessible location. When we’re booking your holiday, we’ll ask all about what type of kit you’re looking for and your previous experience so our hire companies can ensure you get the best possible gear for your trip.
