LA ROSIÈRE AT A GLANCE

La Rosière is great for families and those learning to ski. The resort has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and the high altitude makes for good conditions. When you’ve explored the French side, take a chairlift up to the top of the mountain and ski over to La Thuile in Italy. Together the two resorts form the Espace San Bernardo ski area. La Rosière itself is a quiet, peaceful town with traditional family run restaurants that serve local specialities and dishes such as fondue, raclette and tartiflette.

There are plenty of activities to do in addition to skiing. Why not try the X-Treme Luge sledging run, visit the cinema or ice rink, have a go at paragliding, snowshowing or Nordic walking?

Our ideal day in La Rosière
Head straight over to the other side of the La Rosière ski area to enjoy quiet, well-groomed pistes first thing in the morning. Take Roches Noir or Plan de Repos to the top of Roc Noir, then warm up on reds or blues down to the bottom of Moulins chairlift. Take Moulins then Mont Valaisan – this takes you to the highest point of La Rosière and the views are truly spectacular.

There’s a huge freeride area from the top so if there’s fresh snow, head off-piste and enjoy the powder! Alternatively head down the fairly gentle reds and grab a hot chocolate or pint at the bottom of the Fort chairlift. Spend some time doing the runs down from Fort before heading back towards the village for lunch. If you want to take lunch on the slopes – Paradis Restaurant is nice if you’re fancying something extra special. If you’re on a budget, head back into the village for a burger, pizza or something more traditional. Spend the afternoon leisurely exploring the slopes above the main village before heading to Les Eucherts for some après drinks.

WHY WE LOVE LA ROSIÉRE

  • Families and couples love La Rosière’s relaxed vibe, quality skiing and plenty to do
  • Access to La Thuile, Italy – grab pizza for lunch or a mid-afternoon bombardino!
  • Great variety of runs, lots of them wide-open and generally quiet

Beginners

La Rosière works really well for beginners. Green runs from the bottom of the two main starting areas will enable you to build confidence, and the gentle blues slightly higher up will be reachable in no time! Because La Rosière isn’t huge, it’s a fantastic resort to start skiing in as you’ll be able to explore the majority of the resort even if you’re not an advanced skier.

Intermediates

Intermediate skiers will love La Rosière’s red runs from the top of Mont Valaisan and Fort de la Redoute. There are plenty of options so you’ll keep finding new runs to do from the top of every chair. It’s a great place to progress your skiing and we’d highly recommend heading over to La Thuile for a couple of days to check out the blues and reds in Italy too.

Advanced

What La Rosière lacks when it comes to black runs, it more than makes up for with its freeride area. The off-piste possibilities here are endless, and due to the altitude there is a good chance of fresh powder. La Thuile has some interesting black runs and some really enjoyable red runs so heading over to that side of the mountain is a must!

Additional activities

La Rosière offer lots of extra activities that are great to enjoy as a family, group or couple. In addition to skiing or snowboarding, you can:

  • Go ice skating or bowling
  • Visit the cinema
  • Try the X-Treme Luge sledging run
  • Go snowshoeing
  • Have a spa day
